How does Dinchat work?
In three steps: you come in as a guest, you find someone to talk to, and you say hello. Finding someone can go two ways, by choosing a person from the list of who is online or by letting Random Match connect you, and both end in a conversation between the two of you.
That is the whole product. The sections below take each step in turn, then show what the match screen and a profile look like, and how written messages get translated.
- 1
Come in as a guest
Open dinchat.cam. A guest session starts with the page, so there is nothing to fill in.
- 2
Explore who's online, or match
Browse the Who's online list and pick someone, or tap Match and let chance pick for you.
- 3
Say hello
Send a message or start a call from a profile, or just start talking when a match connects.
Step 1: do you need to log in?
No. Open the site and you are in. Dinchat sets up a guest session for your browser as the page loads, which is why there is no login screen at the front door and no registration form to get past.
An account becomes useful later, once you have something worth keeping. Your guest session belongs to the browser you opened it in. Clear that browser's data or pick up a different phone, and the session does not follow you, and neither do the people you followed or any coins. Signing in ties those things to you. The table lists what works either way.
Guest and account, side by side| What you want to do | As a guest | With an account |
|---|
| See who's online and open profiles | Yes | Yes |
| Start a random match, video or voice | Yes | Yes |
| Start a video call from a profile | Yes | Yes |
| Claim from the Reward Center | Yes, when it is shown to you | Yes |
| Keep it all on a new phone or browser | No | Yes |
A few other actions, such as sending messages, following someone or buying coins, may bring up a sign-in prompt first. Whether they do depends on the moment; the screen tells you when it matters.
Step 2: how do you find someone to talk to?
You have two routes, and you can move between them whenever you like.
Who's online
A list of the people on Dinchat at this moment. Each card shows a photo, a name and a country. You can look at everyone or view the list by country. Tapping a card opens that person's profile; nothing else happens until you choose.
Random Match
One button. Choose video or voice, tap Match, and you are connected with someone who is also looking for a conversation. If it is not a fit, move on to the next person; every new match draws on a free match or on coins.
What does the match screen look like?
It is the busiest screen on Dinchat, and it helps to know what you are looking at before the first tap. Four things are worth noticing.
- The Reward Center bar. At the top of the screen. It either says a reward is ready or counts down to the next one.
- The match type. Video or voice. Voice keeps both cameras off for the whole call.
- Your free matches. The number you currently have, shown where you start a match.
- The Match button. One tap, and the search for someone begins.
Once a match connects
The screen becomes a call. A countdown shows the free time for this match, and there is a place to type messages alongside the conversation. The control for moving on to the next person is not live the instant you connect; it becomes available a little way into the call, which gives every match a fair moment.
When a call ends
You come back to the match screen. This is the moment to follow the person if you have not already, because a random match offers no other way back to them.
What the countdown means for coins is explained once, on the is Dinchat free page. How to claim from the bar is on the coins and Reward Center page.
Step 3: how do you say hello?
If you picked someone from the list, say hello from their profile: write a message, or start a video call if you are feeling brave. If you used Random Match, you are already live, so just say hi.
During a call you can type as well as talk. It helps when a name needs spelling, when the connection is noisy, or when the two of you do not share much of a language. Ideas for a first line are on the meet new people online page.
What can you do on someone's profile?
Three things, and they are the reason one good conversation can become several.
- 1
Follow
Adds the person to your list so you can find them later, even when they are offline.
- 2
Message
Opens a written conversation with them. They can answer when they are free.
- 3
Video call
Rings that person directly. No random match involved.
A profile is also where you go to block or report someone. When to use which is in the safety tips.
How does message translation work?
Automatically, and on the reader's side. When a written message reaches you in another language, Dinchat shows it translated into yours. What you write is translated for the other person in the same way when it reaches them. You do not have to paste anything into a separate tool, and you each keep writing in the language you think in.
It applies to written messages, including the ones typed during a call. Spoken conversation is not translated. So on a call with someone who speaks a different language, the working method is to talk for the easy parts and type the sentences that matter.
A translation is a tool, not an interpreter. Short, plain sentences come through best; jokes, slang and idioms can arrive a little strange. If a reply seems odd or abrupt, assume the translation before you assume the person, and ask again in simpler words.
